Mobility Scooters: Keeping You Mobil
Walking around the mall or going to Disney World might be something many people take for granted, but if you are mobility challenged then you might not be able to do this. There are many things that can cause reduced mobility. One of the most common is arthritis, but age can make it hard to walk as well. Injuries and neuromuscular diseases also make walking more difficult. If you have difficulty walking then you might greatly benefit from using a mobility scooter. Mobility scooters are personal movement devices that are designed to carry a single seated individual. They are similar to electric power wheelchairs, but use a different seating and control system. Usually a captain?s seat is mounted towards the center of the device. An adjustable set of handlebars is on the front of the device. The handlebars are used to control the adult scooter and control the acceleration. Many also have battery gauges and light controls on the handlebars. The weight supported by the unit is one consideration when choosing an electric scooter. Most can support around 250 pounds, but there are many that can support much more than this. They come in either 3 or 4 wheeled configurations. A 3 wheeled mobility scooter will have a much smaller turning radius, but they do not have the same stability as a 4 wheeled scooter will. 4 wheeled scooters are great for outdoors and uneven ground. Usually 4 wheeled scooters can support more weight than a 3 wheeled scooter, but they weigh a little more. A travel scooter is one popular type of scooter. A travel scooter can be taken apart easily and separated into several pieces. When disassembled the heaviest piece is usually only around 25 pounds. They can be placed in the trunk of a car or even the back seat and are easily transported on planes. Travel scooters usually use a three wheeled design. This allows them improved maneuverability, so they are great for indoor use. While these types of scooter are perfect for traveling, they typically have a lower range, can not support as much weight, and are not as well suited for use outdoors. Frequently people will purchase an extra battery for their travel scooter, which can be used to effectively double the range of your scooter. When the first battery runs out, you can simply swap it out for your extra and keep on going. Just remember to charge up the first battery, so you will be ready to go again. Mobility scooters are great devices that can be used indoors and out to improve a persons mobility. Travel scooters are very popular and can be used without the need for purchasing a vehicle scooter carrier.
