The city of Springfield has had more history run through it, over it and around it then most states have.
It was fought over in the civil war with the Wilson Creek Battle, was given up to the union forces in 1862 then fought over again in 1863 when Brig. Gen. Brown repelled a Confederate attack led by Brig. Gen. Marmaduke.
It has been known as the "The Birthplace of Route 66" which runs right through the center of town which could explain the draw of the "Lindy Hoppers" swing (you know bobby socks and poodle skirts)group that performs at the Pythian Castle which was originally built in 1913 and has a huge history of its own.
